- RAW: Rutgers Accounting Resources on the Internet
Part of the International Accounting Network, whose goal is “to provide as complete a coverage of accounting information as possible.” This site certainly does just that. It provides links under broad categories, such as government, journals in accounting and taxation, finance, state CPA associations, etc. This is probably THE place to start accounting research.

- Hoover’s Online Capsules on 11,000 companies in the US and world are available free. Each capsule includes basic information such as the company’s legal name, address, telephone/fax numbers, Web site URL, chief executives, latest available annual sales figures, number of employees, etc. Full company reports are available for a fee. Capsules also provide links to a company’s home page.

- Thomas Register of Manufacturers A free service to locate industrial products or services, but you must register to use it. Search for company by product/service, company name, or brand name. Also has links to company web sites (wherever you see W in front of the company’s name.)

- Bureau of Labor Statistics About 90% of the BLS’s tabular material is available online. This site includes statistics on unemployment, earnings, productivity, CIP, employee benefits, occupational injuries, etc. Well-organized and easy to use. Specialists will e-mail answers to your questions.

- EPI DataZone From the Economic Policy Institute, this site provides historical statistical data and information on US labor markets and income.
- History of Economic Thought Developed by grad students at the New School for Social Research. Good for beginners. Includes an alphabetical listing of about 500 economists and descriptions of schools of economic thought.
- International Economics Gateway Links to international organizations such as the World Trade Organization and to national governments.
- RFE: Bill Goffe’s Resources for the Economist on the Internet Maintained by a faculty member at the U of Southern Mississippi, this site covers much the same territory as WebEc. Particularly useful headings include U.S. Macro and Regional Data, Other U.S. Data, and World and Non-U.S. Data.
- WebEc: WWW Resources in Economics Maintained by the Helsinki School of Economics and Business Administration, this is an excellent place to begin research into economics. Contains links to more than 1,000 sites, with short descriptions for many.

- CNN Money Current financial and business news. “Research It” is a metapage for business research.
- Edgar Database of Corporate Information Compilation of documents filed by public corporations with the SEC, from January 1994-present. Several types of searching available: central index key, ticker symbol, ownership, etc. An excellent resource.
- FINWeb Financial economics site maintained by a former U of Texas finance professor. This site has links to major finance and economics journals (some online), working papers series, databases, electronic course materials, and to Internet search engines that deal specifically with economic and financial information. It’s a good starting point for searches in the area of finance.
- Wachowicz’s Web World: Web Sites for Discerning Finance Students Excellent, lengthy list of briefly annotated sites grouped to correspond to the major topic headings in the text Fundamentals of Financial Management by Horne and Wachowicz.

- International Business Resource Connection (KU) Contains links to many sites, such as CIA World Factbook, Country Commercial Guides, Country Information from the Export-Import Bank, NAFTA, Trade Law Library.

- Counties and Regions (The World Bank) Access to lots of economic data for 100+ developing nations and six regions of the world. Descriptions and tables of economic indicators are available.
- Trade Statistics from the Office of Trade & Economic Analysis This site has a wide variety of trade information, including US export and import data by country, outlook tables for trends for 1995-2000, and outlook for major manufacturing groups and products. See also Foreign Trade Statistics, which provides monthly US foreign trade reports since 1994.
- VIBES: Virtual International Business & Economics Sources Access to full-text and statistical information related to international business and economics. Includes links to government and international organization sites, banks, trade associations, research centers, and university sites. Also provides a link to “Research-it.” This is an excellent resource.
